I knew the point I was trying to make when I repurposed my original story, but it took me a while to figure out how to make it. Here's how I approached it and dealt with the inevitable roadblocks along the way.

This time, I was in totally uncharted territory. I had to learn how to use a new software in addition to making decisions about content in a short, two-minute video. Here's how I simplified a complex story into a clear direction.

It all started with a Daily story from last February about the gay culture in college athletics and how it was dealt with at Michigan specifically. I talked to former athletes and observers alike, coming up with what would become the basis for my work this fall.

HOW I WRITE

 

As a sports writer, I don't often have time to think about the process of writing. Deadlines hamper that possibility. In the writing minor gateway course, I got a chance to look at my writing from different angles and ponder how to make my point in different ways. Here is the method behind that process:
